Another woman raped at home in Noakhali

A 29-year-old mother of three children was raped at her home in Kabirhat, Noakhali by a local Awami League man and his associates early Saturday as her husband has been in jail custody since December 23 in a fabricated case, called ‘Gayebi Mamla’ lodged with Kabirhat police station.
On Saturday afternoon, the victim filed a case with Kabirhat police station naming local Awami League activist and grocer Zakir Hossain Jahir and his three accomplices.
Only 20 days back, a mother of four children was raped at her home at Subarnachar, Noakhali by a local AL leader and his accomplices for voting for Paddy Sheaf ignoring the perpetrators’ warnings.
Kabirhat police station officials said that the victim’s husband, an activist of opposition BNP ‘is in jail in a case under explosive substances act lodged with Kabirhat police station on December 5, 2018.’
He was arrested on December 23, 2018, seven days before the general election, and was sent to jail, they said.
‘The victim’s husband is a BNP activist and accused in two “fictitious” cases. He secured bail in one case and now in jail in another one,’ Noakhali district BNP general secretary Abdur Rahman told New Age.
Kabirhat police station officer-in-charge Md Mirza Hasan said that they came to know that a housewife was gang raped by a group of people after entering her house by digging a hole from outside.
He said that the police rescued her, brought her to the police station, recorded her statement and sent her to the Noakhali General Hospital for treatment and medical examination.
He said that the victim lodged a case accusing Zakir Hossain, son of Enamul Huq of Nabagram, Kabirhat, Noakhali and three others.
He said that the police arrested Zakir but he was not aware about the political identities of the victim or her husband or accused Zakir.
The OC said that they were trying to nab the other accused.
A brother-in-law of the victim told New Age that six or seven perpetrators entered into his sister-in-law’s house by digging hole at about 1:30am on Saturday and four of them raped her by confining her elderly mother and three children while others looted the house and left at about 3:30am.
He said that the perpetrators looted gold ornaments, cash and even a blanket from the house after raping his sister-in-law.
‘My sister-in-law could identify one of the rapists namely Zakir. He is a local Awami League activist. The Awami League activists used their influence over the police to get my brother arrested a few days before the election as my brother is a BNP activist. They had been creating pressure and threatening since then,’ he said.
Local AL leader and Dhansiri union parishad chairman Abdul Munaf told New Age that Zakir is an AL supporter.
