Music director Ahmed Imtiaz dies

Ekushey Padak winning lyricist, composer, music director and freedom fighter Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul died of cardiac arrest in the early hour on Tuesday. He was 63.

He fell sick at home in the morning and was brought to Universal Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

‘He was brought to our hospital at 5:58am. Our doctors in emergency unit later found him dead. He probably died on his way to hospital,’ said Samia Akter, an official of the hospital information desk.

Bulbul was has diagnosed with heart disease as doctors at Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital & Research Institute in Shahbagh detected eight blocks in Bulbul’s heart on May 14.

The seasoned music composer, who received treatment at the hospital from May 11- 15, in an emotional facebook post had informed the nation his health condition.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasian later announced to bear the treatment cost of Bulbul.

Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul, who took part in the liberation war at the age of 15, in his long and eventful career has written and composed playback songs for more than 350 Bangla feature films. Besides, he also has many popular modern and patriotic songs to his credit.

He has received several awards including the National Award, President's Award and others.
