Answer scripts evaluation with special arrangement: Dipu Moni
Following the wrong question papers distribution to students at several centres on the first day of SSC and equivalent examinations, education minister Dipu Moni suggested that their answer scripts would be evaluated with special arrangement.
In response to Jatiya Party lawmaker Md Mujibul Haque’s question regarding wrong question distributions on Sunday at the parliament, Dipu Moni told the parliament that answer scripts of the examinees who were provided question papers based on 2018 syllabus during the Bangla first paper examination would be evaluated with special arrangement.
She said that students who received the wrong question papers had already been identified and the responsible examination centre secretaries and centre inspectors had been removed.
‘Inquiry committees have been formed to investigate the matter. And the responsible people for the mistakes will be punished,’ she said.
‘Students who sat for examination based on last year’s syllabus are usually made top sit at separate places from the regular students. But, those centres did not follow this norm,’ she said.
On the first day of SSC examinations, the multiple-choice question papers based on 2018 syllabus were reportedly provided to hundreds of regular students at different centres in 10 districts including Chattogram, Manikganj, Munshiganj and Sherpur.
The examinees claimed that they could not give answers to all the questions since those were not in their current syllabus.
Another JP lawmaker Fakhrul Imam for Mymensingh 8 took issue with the education minister’s decision to evaluate the answer scripts with special arrangement. He said, ‘How will you evaluate when they did not even answer the questions? Will you give 100 to all the identified students? If so, won’t it be discriminatory against other examinees?’
Dipu Moni said she did not know about a better solution to the crisis. She said, ‘We will have to arrange for separate examination for them. It might also create discrimination in the sense that they will sit for exam with different question papers. And, only a few topics changed in the new syllabus. So, they faced problem only while answering a few questions.’
‘If you can suggest a better solution, please let us know. We will apply it,’ the education minister said.
In response to the Awami League lawmaker for Chattogram 11 M Abdul Latif on dormitory crisis for 65 per cent students at the public universities, Dipu Moni told the parliament that projects were taken to solve dormitory problems of the students and teachers.
Another ruling party MP Ali Azam from Bhola 2 constituency gave a call attention notice following the Section 71 of the rules of procedure on ongoing coaching practice by the teachers and schools.
Earlier, in response to AL MP Bazlul Haque Haroon’s question presented by Rustam Ali Faraji, the state minister for primary and mass education Zakir Hossain told the house about different programmes taken by the AL-led government since 2009 for the development of education quality at the primary level in the country.
