RAJON MURDER CASE: OC withdrawn, 2 SIs suspended
Sylhet Metropolitan Police on Friday evening withdrew the officer-in-charge and two sub-inspectors of Jalalabad police station on allegation of assisting a prime suspect in the killing of 13-year-old Samiul Alam Rajon in Sylhet to leave the country and misbehaving with Rajon’s father.
Metropolitan police additional deputy commissioner Rahmat Ullah told New Age that departmental actions were taken against the police officials on the basis of an investigation into the allegations.
He said that Jalalabad police officer-in-charge Alamgir Hossain was withdrawn from the station while sub-inspectors Zakir Hossain and Aminul Islam were suspended as the probe committee found well-grounded the allegations brought against them.
The probe body found true the allegation of negligence in arresting Kamrul, now in Saudi police custody, and handling the overall situation after the incident, he added.
A group of youths, including Kamrul, his brothers Muhith and Ali Haidar and other accomplices, beat Rajon to death on July 8 branding him a thief when he went there to sell vegetables.
Later around noon, local people caught Muhith after chasing him and his accomplices when they were
trying to dump the body at a lonely place near Kumargaon Bus Terminal in the city and handed him over to the police.
The metropolitan police formed a three-member body headed by its additional commissioner SM Rokan Uddin on July 14 to probe the allegations against Jalalabad police officials.
The committee submitted its report to metropolitan police commissioner Kamrul Ahsan on Thursday night, official sources said.
Earlier, Rajon’s father Azizur Rahman alleged that the police officers misbehaved with him at night on July 8 when he went to Jalalabad police station to file a case for the murder of his son.
Azizur also claimed that the police officers helped Kamrul to leave the country for Saudi Arabia in exchange of Tk 6 lakh.
Rajon was eldest son of microbus driver Sheikh Azizur Rahman of Bade Ali village under Sylhet sadar upazila.
Azizur went to the Jalalabad police to record a general diary as Rajon did not return home on July 8 and then identified the body of Rajon at Sylhet Osmani Medical Hospital morgue.
He also filed a murder case with the police accusing Muhith, 32, Kamrul Alam, 30, and Ali Haydar, 34, and market night guard Mayna, 45.
Following the statement extracted from Muhith, the police seized a video clip of torturing Rajon recorded by the perpetrators during the incident and posted it on facebook, police said.
The police so far arrested 11 accused in the case. Kamrul, who left the country for Saudi Arabia on July 10 to escape arrest, was also arrested by Jeddah police on July 13.
