Govt to bear responsibility if any harm befell ailing Khaleda: Mirza Fakhrul
Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Tuesday warned the government of bearing all responsibilities if any harm befell the party’s imprisoned ailing chairperson Khaleda Zia for want of proper medical treatment.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir issued the warning at a news briefing at the party’s central office at Nayapaltan. He also alleged that Khaleda was being pushed gradually towards death since she has no access to proper treatment.
He claimed that Khaleda has been kept in an abandoned jail, after she has been awarded punishment in a ‘false’ case since February 8, 2018.
Fakhrul said the BNP chief did not receive any treatment for the last three and half months.
He said, in the last three and half months no blood test was run, nor was any X-ray done and blood pressure measured.
Fakhrul said after three and half months the medical board formed by court visited Khaleda Zia on Sunday at the directive of the court and found that she did not receive any treatment during this period.
The secretary general of BNP demanded proper treatment for Khaleda and her ‘unconditional’ release.
Fakhrul said the party agreed to bear additional expenses if necessary to ensure best treatment for Khaleda.
BNP leaders including Mirza Abbas, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moyeen Khan and Nazrul Islam Khan, AZM Zahid Hossain and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi were present at the occasion.
