11 more bodies identified, eight handed to relatives
The Criminal Investigation Department of Police said Wednesday that 11 more persons who were killed by fire at Churihatta, Chawkbazar, Old Dhaka on the night of February 20 were identified by using DNA test results.
CID additional deputy inspector general Rejaul Haider said at a press briefing at his Malibagh office that two of the identified persons were females.
The devastating fire killed at least 71 people and until Wednesday and 63 of them were identified.
Reja said that DNA samples of 23 relatives matched with that of 11 victims.
He said that it might require 10 to 12 more days to identify the remaining victims.
He said that the DNA test results had been sent to the investigation officer of the Chawk Bazar police station for handing the bodies of 11 victims to their families with the court’s permission.
The Dhaka district administration with support from the police handed the bodies of eight victims to their relatives at Dhaka Medical College Hospital until 8 PM, said additional deputy commissioner Shafiqul Islam.
He said that the bodies of three victims would be handed to their relatives today.
District administration officials said the bodies handed to relatives included North South University student Tanjil Hasan Rohan, 20, son of Mohammad Hasan of Abdul Hadi Lane, Bangshal, rickshaw puller Nuruzzaman, 42, son of the late Sohrab Hawladrer of Jainakathi, Sadar upazila, Patuakhali, plastic factory worker Ahasanullah, 32, son of Soru Mia of Begumganj, Noakhali, Home Economics College student Fatema Tuz Zohora Brishti, 21, daughter of Jasim Uddin of Hazi Rahim Bux Lane, Lalbagh, Dhaka, trader Shahin Ahmed, 42, son of Md Sadek Ahmed of Churihatta, Chawk Bazar, Old Dhaka, trader Enamul Huq, 30, son of Afzal Hossain of Phulpur, Mymensingh, ice cream factory worker Saleh Ahmed, 35, son of Lal Mia of Chawk Bazar, Old Dhaka and his wife Nasrin Jahan, 32.
Of the remaining three, New Age could learn about the identity of rickshaw puller Ibrahim, 30, son of Nur Hossain of Goasairhat, Shariatpur, who lived at Kamrangichar, Old Dhaka.
