Heads of cattle can be bought, not of humans: Dr Kamal Hossain

Gono Forum president Dr Kamal Hossain on Friday said that heads of cattle can be bought but not of humans, he was venting his anger over Gono Forum lawmaker-elect Sultan Muhammad Mansur Ahmed’s oath taking as member of the 11th parliament on Thursday.
Kamal Hossain’s remark came a day after his party’s expelled member Sultan Mansur took oath defying party decision.
Kamal, also convener of the opposition alliance Jatiya Oikya Front, addressing an extended meeting of Gono Forum’s Dhaka city unit, said those are sold out like cattle, they are known as ‘collaborators’.
He said people want to overturn misrule, saying the state cannot run on lies.
The extended meeting was held at the party’s central office at Arambagh in the city, said a press release.
Gono Forum expelled Sultan Mansur on Thursday afternoon, hours after he took the oath as the elected lawmaker for Moulvibazar 2 with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s electoral symbol sheaf of paddy.
All candidates of BNP-dominated Jatiya Oikya Front contested the 11th parliament polls with sheaf of paddy as their electoral symbol.
Another lawmaker-elect of Gono Forum, Mokabbir Khan, who contested for Sylhet 2, backtracked from taking the oath on Thursday at the eleventh hour.
Earlier on Wednesday, Gono Forum, in a press statement, announced that its presidium member Mokabbir was not taking the oath due to ‘unavoidable circumstances’.
Mokabbir contested the election getting the party ticket with its electoral symbol rising sun.
Oikya Front rejected the results of the December 30 parliament polls marred by ‘flaws’ and ‘fraud’, demanding fresh election under a neutral government.
