PM for pvt practice in public hospitals
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday gave directive that the government physicians should be facilitated with scopes for private practice in the public hospitals in the evening.
Arrangement for private practices within the government hospitals should be there, she said while approving a proposal for upgrading the Sarkari Karmchari Hospital in the city to a 500-bed hospital at a cost of Tk 379.96 crore from 2019 to 2021.
Earlier, the proposal was placed before the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council, ECNEC in short, at the planning commission.
MA Mannan briefed the reporters after the meeting.
The government converted the Railway Hospital at Fulbaria to the Sarkari Karmachari Hospital in 1978.
But the 50-bed hospital is inadequate to fulfil the demands of the public employees.
Mannan said the PM wanted that people could avail treatment facilities in the public hospitals easily.
According to the planning minister such system is practised in the city’s BIRDEM hospital.
Mannan said the PM also wanted that the design of the hospital should be made in a way so that patients can receive sufficient light and air.
He said the ECNEC approved five more proposals on the day with an overall cost of Tk 2,650 crore.
The proposals including upgrading the Barisal-Bhola-Lakshmipur national highway at a cost of Tk 312.48 crore by 2021, widening of the Sariatpur-Ibrahimpur highway at a cost of Tk 859.63 crore by 2021 and improving the Nilphamari-Domar highway at a cost of Tk 250 crore by 2021.
Besides, the ECNEC approved the Sheikh Hasina Nakshi Palli (first phase) to be implemented at a cost of Tk 722 crore at Jamalpur till 2022 and expansion of lemon cultivation at a cost of Tk 126.44 crore by 2024.
