It’s murder, not accident, says minister

Housing and public works minister SM Rezaul Karim on Friday said Banani high-rise building fire that killed 25 people and injured more than 100 on Thursday was not merely an accident rather manslaughter.
‘It is manslaughter, not an accident,’ he said while visiting the spot in the morning.
The minister promised to bring all those responsible for disaster to justice after investigation.
Responding a query, Rezaul said that around 66 per cent buildings in the city were built flouting the approved plans.
He said the fire-hit FR Tower also was extended up to 23 storeys though it had approval of 18 storeys.
Rezaul said they would also take action if involvement of government officials was found in illegal expansion of the building.
Local government and rural development minister Md Tajul Islam, Dhaka North City mayor Md Atiqul Islam, Inspector General of Police Mohammad Javed Patwary and Gono Forum president Kamal Hossain among others visited the spot on the day.
