Gano Forum MP Mokabbir to be sworn in today
Gano Forum parliament member-elect for Sylhet 2 constituency Mokabbir Khan will be following the footsteps of party MP Sultan Mohammad Mansur as he is going to be sworn in today.
In response to a letter sent by Mokabbir to speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Monday, arrangements were made to administrate oath to him at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban at 12 noon today.
Gano forum central executive committee member Major (retd) Afsary Ameen Ahmed carried the letter to the parliament at about 4:40pm.
In the letter sent on a letterhead of Gano Forum, the MP-elect said, ‘My party and I have decided to take oath either on April 2 or 3.’
Mokabbir said that he had sent the letter as per the decision of party presidium members.
‘The party leaders and president Dr Kamal Hossain are aware of it,’ he said.
In response to a question, he also said that Dr Kamal had given him the green signal to take oath.
‘The people of my constituency have also requested me to take oath,’ he said.
On March 7, Sultan Mohammad Mansur, MP-elect for Moulvibazar 2 constituency, took oath as a member of the 11th parliament.
Earlier on March 3, two Gano Forum MPs-elect sent separate letters to the speaker requesting her to arrange their oath-taking ceremony on the historic March 7.
Mokabbir Khan did not take oath on that day.
BNP along with Gano Forum and some other parties joined the December-30 election in alliance under the banner of the Jatiya Oikya Front.
BNP bagged six seats while Gano Forum got two seats in the election.
The alliance turned down the election results bringing the allegation of ‘massive vote robbery’ and decided not to join the parliament.
Gano Forum expelled Sultan Mansur hours after he had joined the parliament.
