BTRC asks GP to pay dues of Tk 12,580cr

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission on Tuesday asked mobile phone operator Grameenphone to pay Tk 12,579.95 crore in dues.

The commission made the claim after the submission of final audit report by its auditor Toha Khan Zaman & Co on March 25, revising the earlier claim upward.

The commission asked Grameenphone to pay the dues in two weeks, commission officials said.

In a letter to Grameenphone, the commission said that its claim to the mobile operator stood at Tk 8,494.01 crore and the operator owed another Tk 4,085.94 crore to the National Board of Revenue for 1996-2017 period.

The telecom regulator made the claim after accepting the final audit report at a commission meeting on Sunday.

As per the auditor’s draft report submitted to the commission in 2018, the operator’s total dues was revised downward by Tk 5.16 crore to Tk 11,524.98 crore.

In July 2018, the commission issued a demand letter to mobile operator Robi claiming Tk 867 crore based on an audit report on the entity’s information system.
