Sammilita Forum sweeps BGMEA election

Sammilita Forum led by the Mohammadi Group managing director Rubana Huq has swept the biennial election to Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association, bagging all 35 director posts.
A total of 44 candidates from the two contesting panels —26 from Sammilita Forum and 18 from Swadhinata Parishad —took part in the polls for the 26 posts of directors for the Dhaka region while the nine director posts for the Chattogram region had already been won unopposed by Sammilita Forum.
The 26 directors elected for the Dhaka region are: Rubana Huq, SM Mannan Kochi, Faisal Samad, Mohammed Nasir, Asif Ibrahim, Arshad Jamal, MA Rahim, KM Rafiqul Islam, Md Shahidul Haque Mukul, Md Moshiul Azam Shajal, Inamul Haq Khan, Masud Kader Mona, Iqbal Hamid Quraishi, Md Nasir Uddin, Md Kamal Uddin, Md Sajjadur Rahman Mridha, Md Rezwan Selim, Md Munir Hossain, AKM Badiul Alam, Miran Ali, Mohammad Abdul Momen, Md Mosharraf Hossain Dhali, Md She habudduza Chowdhury, Md Mohiuddin Rubel, Sharif Zahir and Nazrul Islam.
The nine directors elected unopposed for the Chattogram region are: AM Chowdhury (Selim), Anjan Shekhar Das, AM Mahbub Chow, Mohammad Atique, Mohammed Abdus Salam, Mohammed Meraj-E-Mostafa, Enamul Aziz Chowdhury, Mohammed Musa and Khondaker Belayet Hossain.
Of the total 1,955 voters, 1,490 cast their votes to elect the 2019-21 BGMEA executive committee. The voting started at the BGMEA offices in Dhaka and Chattogram at 8:00am and ended at 4:00pm on Saturday.
The newly elected 35 directors will elect a president, a first vice-president, a senior vice-president and five vice-presidents on April 18 for the executive body.
As per the schedule, the new committee will take charge in a ceremony on April 21.
