CUMILLA ARSON CASE AD upholds Khaleda’s bail

The Appellate Division on Sunday dismissed a government’s petition seeking stay on the bail granted to former prime minister and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia in a case of arson attack on a bus at Chauddagram, Cumilla in February 2015.
A four-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order.
Until now, the Appellate Division upheld bails granted to Khaleda Zia in two cases relating to the same arson attack and another arson attack on a covered van at the same place, Chauddagram during the countrywide blockade called by the BNP-led alliance in 2015.
On March 3, Khaleda got six month’s bail in the 3rd arson case.
On February 27, Khaleda filed the petition with the High Court seeking bail after the district and sessions judge’s court on February 4 rejected her bail petition after deferring hearing four times since November 2018.
Since February 8, 2018 Khaleda Zia had been in the Old Dhaka Central Jail as its lone inmate.
On April 1, the government shifted her to a cabin of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University after declaring it as a sub-jail.
