‘We should not forget Nusrat like Tonu, Sagor-Runi, Mitu,’: HC

The High Court Division on Thursday said at a hearing, ‘We should never forget the murder of 18-old Feni madrassah student Nusrat Jahan Rafi like the murders of journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi, Comilla Victoria College student Sohagi Jahan Tonu and Mahmuda Khanam Mitu wife of former Chattagram SP Babul Akhter.’ 
Lawyer Syed Sayedul Haque Suman had sought a suo moto directive to the government to institute judicial probe into Nusrat’s murder.
A bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil gave the assurance that it would definitely intervene if the investigation into Nusrat’s murder faced obstructions.
‘We feel shocked over the incident,’ said the court, ‘And come to us if you notice that the investigation was facing obstructions.’ 
On March 27, Nusrat was sexually assaulted by madrassah principal SM Siraj-ud-Doula in his office room.
After Nusrat’s mother filed a case with the Sonagazi police station the principal Siraj was arrested for his crime against his girl student.
On April 5, when Nusrat went to the madrassah to appear in her Alim Examination, four accomplices of principal Siraj wearing burqa and gloves misled Nusrat to go to the roof of the madrassah to rescue her closest friend saying she was being lynched by some people.
As Nusrat went to the roof to rescue her friend, the four poured kerosene on her and set her on fire.
With serious burns Nusrat was brought the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the brave girl, determined to fight principal Siraj’s criminality, died at the ICU Wednesday night.
After Nusrat’s death, many other girl students of the same madrassah complained that principal Siraj committed similar crimes against them also but they could not pull up courage to fight just as Nusrat did. 
The bench obviously felt disturbed over the society forgetting murders of Sagor-Runi inside their rented flat on February 11, 2012, Tonu who was found dead inside Mainamati Cantonment on March 20, 2016 and Mitu on June 5, 2016..
Similarly there had been no progress in the probe into Mitu’s murder who was shot at and hacked by unidentified miscreants in the Chattagram city’s GEC Intersection after she had gone there with her son so that he could catch Chittagong Cantonment Public School and College’s bus on June 5, 2016.
