Actor Ferdous to return to Bangladesh as India revokes visa

Bangladeshi film actor Ferdous Ahmed’s visa has been revoked by the Indian authorities allegedly for campaigning for the Trinamool Congress for the upcoming Loko Shabha election, scheduled on April 18.

Ferdous is scheduled to return home on Tuesday night, a Bangladesh diplomat in Kolkata told New Age without any detail.

The actor confirmed he would return Tuesday night or Wednesday but did not say anything of his visa rejection.

Several Indian newspapers reported on Tuesday that the Indian home ministry has ordered the actor to leave the country and blacklisted him.

A home ministry statement published in the Hindustan Times reads, ‘After receiving report from Bureau of Immigration regarding visa violations committed by a Bangladesh National Mr Ferdous Ahmed, MHA has cancelled his business visa and issued him a leave India notice. He also has been blacklisted.’

Opposition parties in West Bengal, India had protested the appearance of Ferdous at a Trinamool Congress road show and election rally in Raiganj, north Bengal, on Tuesday and demanded the cancellation of the candidature of Kanaia Lal Agarwal, the ruling party’s candidate from that constituency, reads a Hindustan Times report.
