Suspect Moni on 5-day remand as protests on

Detained accused Abdur Rahim Sharif confessed in a Feni court that he was involved in the cold blooded murder of Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
Sharif, arrested at Kamrangirchar in the capital early Wednesday by the Police Bureau of Investigation, was produced in the Feni court of judicial magistrate Sharaf Uddin Ahmed. 
It took the court five hours to record Sharif’s statement.
Earlier two other accused made confessional statements in the same court on the basis of which PBI arrested Sharif at Kamrangirchar. 
A court in Feni on Wednesday allowed the police to take Alim examinee Kamrun Nahar Moni on remand for five days to interrogate her for her suspected role in the murder of classmate Nusrat Jahan Rafi.
Both were students of Songazi Islamia Fazil Madrassah.
The protests continued in the capital and elsewhere in the country demanding justice for Nusrat.
On Wednesday, the Police Bureau of Investigation arrested two more suspects in the capital, one at Kamrangirchar and the other at Pirerbagh.
A Supreme Court lawyer filed a writ petition in the High Court Division seeking judicial probe into Nusrat’s murder.
Nusrat was set on fire on April 6 as she refused to withdraw her complaint against madrassah principal and serial sex offender Siraj-ud-Doula.
On April 10, Nusrat,18, died while on life support at the Intensive Care Unit of the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Siraj was arrested on March 28 after her mother lodged a case with Sonagazi police station for sexually harassing her daughter. 
New Age correspondent in Feni reported that PBI Inspector Md Shah Alam investigating the produced Moni in the court of senior judicial magistrate Shoraf Uddin Ahmed seeking her to take into remand for 10 days interrogations.
The court allowed PBI to take Moni in remand for five days for interrogations. 
PBI officials said that Moni, arrested from a village in Feni Tuesday evening, was the five member team that set Nusrat on fire as accomplices of sex offender Siraj.
They said that they also arrested suspects, Hafez Abdul Kader, 25, and Shariful Islam alias Sharif, 20, from two places in the capital on Wednesday. A total of 17 suspects had been arrested so far.
With the arrest of Kader, all the eight named in the case of killing Nusrat are now in custody.
They, referring to their investigation, said that the assailants met in a meeting at Kader’s room at the madrassah hostel to plan Nusrat’s murder. 
On Wednesday, a Supreme Court lawyer filed a writ petition seeking directives to the government to institute judicial investigation into Nusrat’s cold blooded murder and to direct the authorities concerned to pay adequate compensations to her family.
The writ also sought the HC order to create a special tribunal to try the offenders.
In the capital, a human chain was formed by Aparajeyo Bangladesh holding placards inscribed with, Why Nusrat, Tanu had to die.
Addressing the human chain Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna on Wednesday demanded justice for Nusrat and criticised government for not taking any visible action against the officer-in-charge of Sonagazi police station for his negligence for which Nusrat was burnt to death.
In Feni, students of a number of educational institutions including City Girls’ School, Central Public High School and Shanti Niketon Pre-Cadet School staged demonstration seeking justice and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators in the district town.
Students of several madrassahs formed human chain in Sonagazi upazila town in the morning.
