Shamim placed on fresh remand, Sonagazi AL chief sent to jail

A Feni court on Thursday placed Shahadot Hossain Shamim, among the five accused who set Nusrat Jahan Rafi ablaze, on fresh remand for three days for further interrogations by the Police Bureau of Investigation.
The PBI earlier produced Shamim in the court of senior judicial magistrate Zakir Hossain.
Shamim, arrested on April 12 at Mukutagachha in Mymensingh, on April 14 made statement in the court admitting his involvement in the murder. 
Shamim acted as cohort of serial sex offender Sonagazi Islamia Fazil Madrassah principal Siraj-ud-Doula on whose order Nusrat was set ablaze like Joan of Ark.
The court also sent Sonagazi thana Awami League president Md Ruhul Amin to jail, after the PBI interrogated him for five days since April 20. 
PBI officials arrested Ruhul at his Sonagazi home on April 19.
Court officials and lawyers said that the PBI , kept Ruhul Amin in the court inspector’s room instead of in the dock.
Later, PBI took him to jail from the court inspector’s room, court inspector Golam Jilani refrained from making any comment on the issue.
PBI inspector Shah Alam said that the matter would be explained by higher authorities.
PBI additional special superintendent Md Moniruzzaman, however, said inspector Shah Alam alone needs to explain why Ruhul Amin was not put up in the dock. 
A PBI team led by additional special superintendent Rima Sultana began the investigation against former Sonagazi OC Md Muazzem Hossain for grabbing and uploading the victim’s video violating Digital Security Act.
Rima told reporters at a news briefing on Wednesday night that statements of Sonagazi police station officials had been recorded.
She said that the investigations against the OC would continue.
Supreme Court lawyer Sayedul Huq Sumon lodged the case with Cyber Crimes Tribunal against OC Muazzem Hossain for grabbing and uploading the victim’s video on the Youtube.
So far, 20 accused of setting Nusrat ablaze have been arrested.
