Sofia Hossain’s novel Bir Birangana launched

A novel featuring struggles of women during the Independence War titled Bir Birangana by Sofia Hossain was launched at RC Majumdar auditorium of Dhaka University on Saturday.
Liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Haque, as the chief guest, unveiled the book cover while Nazim Uddin Ahmed, MP for Mymensingh 3 constituency, and DU arts faculty dean Abu Md Delwar Hossain attended the launching ceremony as the special guests.
Addressing the function, the speakers said that the novel would make its strong impression on the readers’ mind.
The book is inspiring as it glorifies contributions of the women to the independence of the country. The also said that the contribution of the women did not get much importance in the narratives of most other literary works, they added.
Vidyasagar Society organaised the ceremony which was presided over by its founding secretary general Muhammad Abdul Hai while Mir Maksud Hossain former deputy inspector general of prisons delivered welcome speech.
DU pharmacy department chairman Sitesh Chandra Bachar, Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra’s artists Monoranjan Ghosal, DU Bangla department professor Soumitra Shekhar, lyricist Mohammed Emdadul Haque and Bangladesh Television presenter Pritilata Podder attended the function, among others.
