BNP slams PM for going abroad ahead of Fani

Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Friday criticised prime minister Sheikh Hasina for going abroad without taking any effective steps to save the coastal people from the clutch of the cyclone Fani.
‘Prime minister Sheikh Hasina went abroad [for her eye treatment] leaving countrymen in anxiety of cyclone Fani. It proves that she does not bother citizens as this government is an unelected one. And this is why, she left without taking any effective steps to save the coastal people from the clutch of the cyclone Fani,’ said the party senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Rizvi made the allegation, in two separate rallies in front of the party central office at Naya Paltan in Dhaka demanding immediate release of and proper treatment for the party’s jailed chairperson Khaleda Zia and other leaders and activist of the party, detained and sentenced out of political vengeance.
Sheikh Hasina left Dhaka on Wednesday on an official visit to United Kingdom.
At the rally of Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal in the morning, Rizvi asked the government to take preparations for safety of the coastal people so that cyclone Fani could cause no harm to the people of the areas.
He asked his party leaders and activists of all levels to stand by the affected people and ensure their safety.
At the rally Dhaka south city unit of Swechchhasebak Dal in the afternoon, he alleged that the prime minister had gone to abroad for her eye treatment but the BNP chairperson, who underwent surgery in her two eyes, was kept in a room of the jail where sands fall in her eyes.
Rizvi alleged that the BNP chairperson was not given proper treatment only for political vengeance and demanded her immediate release and proper treatment.
The rally was also addressed by Swechchhasebak Dal president Shafiul Bari Babu and general secretary Abdul Quadir Bhuian Jewel.
