GM Quader made acting JP chairman
Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad on Saturday night announced that his younger brother GM Quader, who was declared on April 4 as chairman in his absence, would act as the acting party chairman.
Ershad made the announcement at a press conference at his Baridhara house.
The deposed military dictator said that he took the decision as he was unable to perform his party activities properly for illness.
Ershad, known for frequently changing decisions, cancelled his March 22 order, by which Ershad relieved Quader of the position of Jatiya Party co-chairperson with special power of leading the party in his absence, terming him incompetent.
In the order circulated to the press on April 4, Ershad reinstated his January 16 order, by which he empowered Quader to act as the party chairman in his absence or while taking treatment abroad.
On March 23, Ershad removed Quader from the post of deputy leader of the opposition in parliament and made his wife senior co-chairperson Rawshan Ershad his deputy in parliament.
