Resolve crisis of Swan Garments: workers’ leaders
Politicians and trade union leaders on Friday at a discussion meeting in the city called on the Awami League led government to take immediate steps to resolve crisis of the Swan Garments.They expressed concern over delaying of the government’s step to resolve the crisis of the 1,300 workers of the factory which was closed by the owners four months ago.
The workers were holding continuous sit-in programme in front of the National Press Club.National Garment Workers Federation organised the discussion meeting at press club auditorium, to mark 31st founding anniversary of the organisation.Workers Party of Bangladesh president Rashed Khan Menon, said that the garment workers were contributing huge in the economic development of the country.Menon, also the civil aviation and tourism minister, expressed dissatisfaction for delaying steps to resolve the crisis of the Swan workers.
Bangladesh Trade Union Centre general secretary Wajed-ul Islam Khan, called on the government to take steps for establishing free trade union in the garment sector.
Chaired by president of the organisation, Amirul Haque Amin, labour leaders Quamrul Ahsan, Salauddin Shawpan, general secretary of the organisation Shafia Parvin, leaders Jesmin Akter, Shahidul Islam Shahid and others took part at the discussion meeting.The discussion was followed by a colourful procession that paraded different city roads.
