Dr Kamal re-elected GF president, Reza Kibria new gen secy

Gono Forum on Sunday announced its 111-member new central committee, formed through the April 26 special council re-electing Dr Kamal Hossain its president and electing Reza Kibria its new general secretary.
The immediate past general secretary, Mostafa Mohsin Montu, has been made the number one member of the committee.
Former state minister for information Professor Abu Sayeed and Advocate Subrata Chowdhury were made the party’s executive presidents while the much-talked-about MP, Mokabbir Khan, was made presidium member.
GF executive president Subrata Chowdhury announced the names of the new committee members at a press conference at the National Press Club in presence of Dr Kamal and said that the committee would work for one year, making efforts to revamp the party across the country.
‘Our regular council will be held after one year,’ he said.
The previous committee’s training affairs secretary Rafiqul Islam Pathik, who had boycotted the special council protesting Mokabbir Kahn’s presence, was not given any post in the new committee.
Subrata said that the councillors in the special council had re-elected Dr Kamal the party president, entrusting him with the responsibility to form the new committee in consultation with the party’s senior leaders.
Speaking at the press conference, Dr Kamal hoped that the new committee would work for the ‘restoration’ of democracy and people’s rights.
The party will also work for the people’s empowerment so that they can play a meaningful role in the country as it owners, he added.
Asked about the reason behind dropping Montu from his post, Dr Kamal said that it was done as per Montu’s desire.
To the question as to why Mokabbir was included in the party presidium after he was served a show-cause notice for taking oath as MP in violation of the party decision, Dr Kamal gave no reply.
New general secretary Reza Kibria, however, said that Mokabbir’s reply to the party show-cause notice had satisfied them.
Asked whether the party would rescind the expulsion of another party lawmaker Sultan Mohammad Mansur, he said, ‘That chapter is closed. …If he wants to return to the party, he can apply and the party will then think about it.’
Responding to a New Age question over telephone, Mostafa Mohsin Montu said, ‘It is their [party leaders’] generosity that they have kept me as the number one member in the central committee. I had urged them not to keep me in any post of the party.’
A number of Gono Forum leaders, led by Montu, did not join the party’s special council on April 26.
