Tarique, Fakhrul sued, investigation ordered
A Dhaka metropolitan magistrate’s court on Sunday asked police to investigate a complaint filed by Jananetri Parishad president AB Siddique accusing acting BNP chairman Tarique Rahman, its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and nine others of attacking him on April 30.
Metropolitan magistrate Abu Sufian Md Noman asked the Bangshal police station officer-in-charge to submit the probe report.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party standing committee members Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain and Goyeshwar Chandra Roy and joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed were also named in the case. The rest five accused were not named.
In the complaint, AB Siddique alleged that he was stopped by about five youths at Tantibazar near the court on April 30 and they started manhandling him and torn his clothes.
He claimed that they were asking him to withdraw all cases he had filed against BNP leaders.
The attackers took away his coat and Tk 2,200 in cash and said that they were giving him one month to withdraw all the cases, he alleged.
They threatened him to withdraw the cases or face same fate as Nusrat Jahan Rafi, a teenage madrassah girl burnt to death at Sonagazi in Feni allegedly for protesting against sexual abuse of her, Siddique alleged.
