MEDITERRANEAN BOAT CAPSIZE 27 Bangladeshi deceased identified
Five bodies of Bangladesh nationals drowned in the Mediterranean Sea were recovered and identities of 27 of the 37 Bangladeshis, feared dead in the boat capsize, were confirmed, Bangladesh Red Crescent Society said on Monday.
The recovered bodies were kept at a nearby Tunisian Navy camp.
The deceased were identified as Nasir of Chatkhil in Noakhali, Kamran of Tongi in Gazipur, Al-Amin and Jalal Uddin of Kishoreganj, Belal, Nadim and Mahbub of Sunamganj, Sojib of Madaripur, Parvez and Kamrun Ahmed Maruf of Shariatpur, Shamim and Fahad of Moulvibazar.
The deceased also include Amajol of Haurtola, Ayat, Limon Ahmed, Abdul Aziz and Ahmed of Fenchuganj, Zillur of South Surma, Rafique and Ripon of Beanibazar, Belal, Khokan and Rubel of Bishwanath, Maruf of Golabganj, Monir, Kashim Ahmed and Zillur Rahman in Sylhet.
Shishir of Shariatpur informed the Red Crescent Society over phone that six of the 14 rescued people were from Shariatpur district. They are Rajib, Uttam, Parvez, Ronny, Suman and Jumman.
Bangladesh Red Crescent Society director Imam Zafar Sikder said that they contacted four living victims of incidents through Tunisian Red Crescent Society official Mangi Silam.
They confirmed the identity of 27 of the 37 Bangladeshi victims of a boat capsize in Mediterranean Sea on Friday, he said.
Sixteen victims were recovered alive and of them, one was from Egypt and another was from Morocco. There were about 75 passengers from different countries, including Bangladesh, Egypt and Morocco, on the boat.
Bangladesh ambassador to Libya Sk Sekander Ali, with concurrent responsibility to Tunisia, labour counsellor in Tripoli ASM Ashraful Islam were scheduled for Monday to reach Tunisia for supervising the rescue operations, according to the foreign ministry.
