Female cop, another hurt in city blast
A female police officer and a rickshaw-puller were injured in a crude bomb blast at Malibagh in Dhaka on Sunday night.
Traffic police assistant sub-inspector Rasheda Akhter Babli, 28, sustained injury in her left leg while the rickshaw-puller Lal Mia, 50, in his head.
Both were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The incident took place on a road runs under the Malibagh flyover at about 9:00pm. Motijheel police division additional deputy commissioner SM Shiblee Noman said the explosion took place on an ‘unattended’ pickup van parked on the road.
‘We are not sure about the attackers and their motives,’ said Shiblee.
Traffic east division sergeant Anamul Haque suspected that the bomb might be dropped from the nearby flyover.
He said Rasheda Akhter was on duty. She was walking towards the pickup van to inquire that. As she goes near the vehicle, the explosion happened and the vehicle caught fire.
Lal Mia said he was waiting at the Malibagh crossing and saw the explosion but he did not notice anybody to throw that.
