Hasina given life-time DUCSU membership

Prime minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina was given lifetime membership of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union.
The proposal was passed in an executive meeting held on Thursday where DUCSU international affairs secretary Shahrima Tanjima Orni moved the motion.
DUCSU ex officio president DU vice-chancellor Akhtaruzzaman presided over the meeting.
It also approved Tk 1.89 crore budget for DUCSU for 2019-2020 fiscal year.
Besides, issues, including introducing health insurance for the students, controlling mass transport system on the campus and fixing the rickshaw fare, were discussed in the meeting.
Out of 25 executive member of the union, 23 members gave their consent in support of the proposal while DUCSU vicepresident Nurul Haq Nur and social welfare secretary Akter Hossain were against the motion.
Talking to New Age Nur said as the DUCSU poll was ‘questionable’ and it was out of DUCSU constitution, he and Akhter opposed the motion to offer the lifetime membership to prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Nur also said that a highly respected person like the prime minister should not be included in the DUCSU which was formed through a questionable election.
He further alleged that Chhatra League representatives at DUCSU did not want to obey rules and regulations and tried to establish one-party show in DUCSU.
However, DUCSU assistant general secretary claimed that the proposal was passed unanimously without any objection.
