Tk 15,166.18cr supplementary budget passed

The Jatiya Sangsad on Monday passed the supplementary budget of Tk 15,166.18 crore for the 2018-19 fiscal year to meet the increased expenditures under different ministries and divisions.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina moved the supplementary budget in the house on behalf of ailing finance minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, which was placed on June 13 along with the proposed national budget for 2019-20.
Different ministries, divisions and institutions sought the additional amount under 34 demands for grants. 
As many as 217 cut-motions were moved by eight members.
Discussions were held on four cut-motions that came from the home ministry, the housing and public works ministry, the local government, rural development and co-operatives ministry and the expatriate welfare and overseas employment ministry.
The cut-motions were brought by Jatiya Party lawmakers M Rustum Ali Faraji, Rowshan Ara Mannan, Fakhrul Imam, Kazi Firoz Rashid, Leakat Hossain Khoka and Pir Fazlur Rahman, Bangladesh Nationalist Party lawmaker M Harunur Rashid and Gono Forum lawmaker Mukabbir Khan.
However, the cut-motions were rejected by voice votes.
According to the budget document, a sum of Tk 4,64, 573 crore was allocated in favour of 62 ministries and divisions for the 2018-19 fiscal year.
But the allocation for 37 ministries and divisions has been increased to Tk 15,166.19 crore while Tk 37,348.05 crore has been reduced for 25 ministries and divisions in the supplementary budget.
As a result, the budget allocation for these ministries and divisions has gone down by Tk 22,032 crore while the total allocation now stands at Tk 4,42,541 crore.
The Election Commission secretariat got the highest allocation of Tk 2,447.88 crore while the expatriate welfare and overseas employment ministry the lowest, Tk 83.54 lakh.
