Nephew of Sohel Taj found unhurt in Mymensingh 11 days after abduction

Former state minister for home affairs Tanzim Ahmed Sohel Taj’s nephew Syed Iftekhar Alam Sourav, a student of media and communication at Independent University Bangladesh and a filmmaker was found unhurt at Tarakanda, Mymensingh early Thursday, 11 days after he had been abducted.
‘Some people dropped him from a vehicle at Madhupur Bottola in Tarakanda at about 5.30AM Thursday and we rescued him from there,’ Tarakanda police station officer in charge Md Mizanur Rahman Akanda told New Age.
He, however, could not say the type of the vehicle from which he was dropped.
Sourav was picked up by a group of plainclothes men at around 7PM on June 9, from in front of Afmi Plaza in the port city of Chattogram.
On Facebook Live, Sourav’s family members repeatedly accused Rapid Action Battalion-1 for his disappearance from Chattogram following disputes with a businessman over love affairs with his daughter.
Mymensingh superintendent of police Shah Abid Hossain said at a media briefing at around 9AM on Thursday at his office that the miscreants had abandoned Sourav in front of Jamil Auto Rice Mill at around 5.30AM on Thursday. One of the employees of the Rice Mill, Soumik, informed Sourav’s family about his whereabout.
The SP said that the Chattogram police informed him over phone where Sourav was.
He said that Tarakanda police rushed to the spot and found him seated on a chair in front of the rice mill.
The SP said, ‘We are trying to identify the abductors.’
He said that Sourav was sent to his residence in the capital as the family desired.
Sourav’s mother Syeda Yasmin Arjuman said Tuesday that her son was picked up and interrogated by two intelligence agencies—the DGFI and the National Security Intelligence as well as the police and the RAB separately since February 7 over the love affairs between Saurav and Sauda, the businessman’s daughter.
She said that her son was asked to go to Terakota, a restaurant in Chattogram and the callers said they would be there as they wanted to offer him an IT job.
Sourav’s enforced disappearance triggered massive criticism on the social media after his uncle Sohel Taj began a social media campaign to ascertain his whereabouts.
Sohel Taj said his nephew was tracked on May 16 through mobile tracker ‘only used by an elite force.’
The RAB’s additional director general (operations) Colonel Jahangir Alam acknowledged watching Facebook Live and told New Age ‘None of the unit or members was involved with Sourav’s disappearance.’
The victim’s father filed a general diary with the Panchlaish police station in Chattogram on June 10 about his son’ s disappearance.
