CID submits charge sheet in DU question leak case
The Criminal Investigation Department of police on Sunday submitted charge sheet against 125 people including 87 students of Dhaka University in a case filed over leak of question papers of the university’s Gha unit admission test in 2017.
The CID’s senior assistant superintendent of police Sumon Kumar Das, also investigation officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in the noon.
General recording officer of Shabagh police at the CMM Court Nizam Uddin said the case was filed under Information and Communication Technology Act and Public Examination (Offences) Act.
The CID had arrested 47 of the 125 suspects, including the alleged mastermind, Alip Kumar Biswas, a suspended assistant director of Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Pratisthan, and all the 47 secured bail from different courts.
Forty-six of them have already given their statements before magistrate courts. One of them was juvenile offender.
Seventy-eight accused remained absconding since the investigation was initiated and the investigation officer said another 89 accused might be included after getting their proper identification and whereabouts. He said a supplementary charge sheet might be submitted later.
Next hearing in the case will be held on June 26.
In its very first raid at two DU halls of residence, the CID arrested two leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League — Mohiuddin Rana, an assistant secretary of its central committee, and Abdullah Al Mamun, theatre and debate affairs secretary of its Amar Ekushey Hall unit — hours before the university’s ‘Gha’ unit admission test on October 20, 2017.
The university authorities later expelled them from the university.
In January 2018, the DU authorities expelled 15 students over their involvement in leaking question papers and cheating in the university’s admission tests.
The fraudulence gang provide the admission seekers the answers via electronic devices within a few minutes into the examinations.
The devices were supplied by the gang, which had brought about a hundred digital communication devices from Mumbai, the investigators said.
The investigation officer named 69 prosecution witnesses in the case.
