JCD’s draft voter list released

Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal’s draft voter list was released Monday.

The aged leaders of the organization held protest demonstrations in front of the BNP central office at Naya Paltan in the capital  demanding roll back of the age limit set for the aspirants of the next JCD central committee to be elected on direct vote on July 15.

They also demanded withdrawal of expulsion of 12 aged leaders and rescheduling the voting for electing the new president, the general secretary and the central committee.

JCD’s draft voter list was released by election conducting committee convener and BNP joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokon in a press release.

The voter list covered JCD’s 115 organizational districts, cities, universities and important colleges under 10 organizational divisions.

Today the election committee would receive objections about the voter list.

The election committee disqualified anyone who passed the SSC Exams before 2000 from contesting the JCD polls.

Married persons were also disqualified to be candidates.

At about 11.30AM on Monday, hardly 200 aged leaders and activists gathered in front of the BNP office to protest against setting the age limit for the candidates blocking the main entrance.

At about 11.45AM they snapped the power connection and suspended the protests around l 1.30PM.

At about 12.30PM, they debarred former JCD leader and BNP organising sectary Fazlul Haque Milon from entering the party office and asked  BNP senior joint secretary general  Ruhul Kabir Rizvi to leave the party office.

At this point, a few JCD leaders keen to contest the polls were assaulted by the aged group for protesting their actions including not letting the leaders enter into the party office.

Several BNP leaders including Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and Shafiul Bari Babu remained stranded inside the party office.

The aged group in a procession walked to the Nightingale Crossing exploding crackers,  eyewitnesses said.

At about 1.30PM joint general secretary of the JCD dissolved central committee Fauque Munna said that the protest would continue until their demands were met.

Power connection was restored to the BNP office after the aged group left.

At about 11AM relatively younger group of JCD leaders and activists took out a procession and hailed the decision of setting the age limit for the candidates.

BNP on June 3 dissolved the JCD central committee and announced that a new central committee would be elected within next 45 days.

The last JCD committee was formed on October 14, 2014.
