GATCO Graft Case: HC asks Khaleda to surrender in 2 months

The High Court on Wednesday directed the former prime minister and Bangladesh Nationalist Party Chairperson, Khaleda Zia, to surrender before the lower court within two months in GATCO graft case.
The case was filed against Khaleda and 12 others on September 2 in 2007 for her alleged involvement in corruption and bribery in awarding contracts to Global Agro Trade Private Company Limited in handling containers in inland depot of Dhaka and Chittagong while she was the prime minister of Bangladesh  during 2003 to 2005.
The bench of Justice Md Nuruzzaman and Justice Abdur Rob issued the directive after rejecting her two writ petitions.
Khaleda had challenged the GATCO case proceedings that were now pending with the special judges court in Dhaka.
The bench also asked the trial court to continue with the proceedings that remained stayed since July 2008.
Earlier on June 17, the bench had directed Khaleda to surrender before the lower court within two months in NIKO corruption case.
She also faces trial in Zia orphanage trust fund and Zia charitable trust fund embezzlements charges.
