Pabna man killed in gunfight

A suspected robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Jorda in Bera upazila of Pabna early Thursday.
Deceased Waliullah, 31, member of an inter-district robber gang and son of Akbar Ali of Shanila in Sadar upazila, was wanted in eight cases of robbery, said the police.
Shahid Mahmud, officer-in-charge of Bera police station, said that they arrested Waliullah on Wednesday and later raided the area along with him to recover arms around 3:30am.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the criminals opened fire on the police, forcing them to fire back that triggered a gunfight.
At one stage, Waliullah sustained bullet wounds while the others managed to flee.
He was then taken to Bera Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
A pistol, a shutter gun, two magazines, six bullets and 17 bottles of Phensidyl were recovered from the spot, the OC said.
