Eid train tickets from July 29
Bangladesh Railway will sell advance tickets from five different spots in the capital from July 29 ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Railways minister Nurul Islam Sujan told New Age at Rail Bhaban on Monday that the railway would sell half of the advance tickets online through the mobile app Rail Sheba.
‘Selling of advance tickets online will start at 6:00am and at counters at 9:00am,’ he said and added that the new timing would help the passengers to get tickets at counters if they failed to get tickets online.
Eight pairs of special trains would run under Eid services between August 8 and August 19, he added.
Nurul Islam Sujan said that on July 29, advance tickets would be sold for train journeys on August 7 while on July 30 for August 8, on July 31 for August 9, on August 1 for August 10 and on August 2 for August 11.
During last Eid-ul-Fitr, for the first time, railway sold advance tickets of all intercity trains on west routes via Jamuna Bridge from Kamalapur station, tickets of trains on Chattogram and Noakhali routes from airport station, tickets of trains on Mymensingh and Jamalpur routes from Tejgaon station, tickets of Netrokona-bound Mohanganj and Haor Expresses from Banani station and tickets of Sylhet and Kishoreganj-bound from Phulbaria in the capital.
The minister said the system would remain the same during this Eid too.
On August 5, advance return tickets would be sold for August 14, on August 6 for August 15, on August 7 for August 16, on August 8 for August 17 and on August 9 for August 18, he said.
The tickets for the return journey to the capital would be sold at Rajshahi, Khulna, Rangpur, Dinajpur and Lalmonirhat stations, said officials.
The minister also informed New Age that five special trains would start running between August 8 and August 11 as well as between August 13 and August 19 on Dhaka-Dewanganj, Chattogram-Chandpur, Dhaka-Shantahar and Lalmonirhat-Dhaka routes.
One special train Khulna-Dhaka route will run only on August 10.
Two additional trains, Sholakia Special 1 and 2 will run on the Eid day on Bhairab-Kishoreganj and Mymensingh-Kishoreganj routes.
About the mismanagement in online ticket sale during the last Eid-u-Fitr, Nurul Islam Sujan said that a huge number of users hit simultaneously for tickets while only a very few people got the tickets and this led to the prevailing misperception.
‘We told them that they should disclose the situation in the media to remove the misperception,’ he added.
Computer Network System Limited, appointed by railway, is currently managing the sale of tickets online.
According to railway it carries about three lakh passengers each day during the Eid vacation.
