JS body asks home ministry to explain intention behind Minni’s arrest

Several MPs on Wednesday asked the home ministry to explain at a parliamentary standing committee hearing why Aysha Siddika Minni was arrested and interrogated over the murder of her husband Rifat Sharif.

The home ministry was also asked to find out  whether any quarter pressurised the police to arrest Aysha,  committee chairman M Shamsul Haque Tuku, MP, told New Age after the hearing at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

Barguna police arrested Ayesha on Tuesday hours after she was brought to the office of the superintendent of police for interrogation.

At the committee hearing, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan said that the investigator of the case arrested Ayesha on the basis of specific allegation.

The home minister also explained that the investigations were proceeding ‘in good and better way’.

The minister also told the hearing that there was no scope to say with finality about a murder case until the investigations were over, said Shamsul Haque.

Aysha resisted the murderers all alone when they  hacked Rifat Sharif to death in broad daylight at  Barguna district town on June 26.

He also said that during discussions on  Monday’s murder of a murder by a co-ccused suspect in judge’s chamber in Cumilla the committee asked the home ministry to take action against  security lapse in the court.

Parliament secretariat said in news release that the home minister informed the committee that making dope test mandatory for government job seekers was underway.

The home minister also informed the committee that the Department of Narcotics Control had  taken a project to introduce the dope test, said the release. The committee recommended eviction of illegal infrastructures by the railway lines across the country, it said.

The release said that the committee recommended involving Battalion Ansar Force in anti-drug drives.

M Afsarul Amin, MP, M Habibar Rahman, MP,  Shamsul Alam Dudu, MP, Kujendra Lal Tripura, MP, Pir Fazlur Rahman, MP,  and Sultan Muhammed Mansur Ahmed, MP attended the hearing as member of the Standing  Committee on Home Ministry.
