DIG Mizan shown arrested in bribery case
A Dhaka Court on Sunday asked police to show suspended deputy inspector general of police Mizanur Rahamn arrested in a case filed in connection with bribing Tk 40 lakh to suspended Anti-Corruption Commission director Khandakar Enamul Basir.
DIG Mizan is now in custody pertaining to a case filed over amassing wealth illegally.
Dhaka senior special judge KM Emrul Kayesh passed the order after ACC director Sheikh Mohammad Fanafillah submitted a petition for showing Mizan arrested in the case.
Earlier the bribery case was filed by Fanafillah against Mizan and Enamul Basir with its Dhaka district coordination office-1 under the Money Laundering Prevention Act 2012.
Suspended DIG came under scanner after a private TV channel recently reported that Mizan gave Tk 40 lakh to ACC Enamul Basir to get a clean chit in a corruption case.
Mizan was an additional commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
He was withdrawn on January 9 last year following the allegation of threatening a female news presenter of a private television channel.
Mizan allegedly kidnapped 25-year-old woman in July 2017 and then forcibly married her.
On June 24, the ACC filed the case against Mizan, his wife Sohelia Anar Ratna and nephew Mahmudul Hasan on charges of amassing over Tk 3 crore beyond known sources of income.
Earlier the HC handed Mizan over to the police after he appeared before it and sought bail in the corruption case. The same court sent Mizan to jail rejecting his bail prayer.
