Rifat Murder Widow Minni denied bail again
The Barguna district and sessions judge court on Tuesday rejected the bail petition of Aysha Siddika Minni, widow of Rifat Sharif who was hacked to death in broad daylight in Barguna town on June 26, in the case of killing her husband.
Judge Md Asaduzzaman of the court passed the order after hearing the bail petition filed by her lawyer Mahbubbul Bari Aslam, also the general secretary of Barguna Bar Association.
Mahbubul Bari, who sought Minni’s bail, told reporters that they would appeal to the High Court challenging the Barguna district and sessions judge court decision after publishing the court’s order.
The defence lawyer on July 21 sought bail for Minni to Barguna senior judicial magistrate’s court and the court rejected the prayer.
On July 23, he again sought bail for his client to Barguna district and sessions judge court that called for documents of the case to the Barguna senior judicial magistrate court and set July 30 for hearing on Minni’s bail plea.
On Tuesday, judge Md Asaduzzaman began the hearing on the bail plea in absence of Minni.
Barguna public prosecutor Bhuban Chandra Halder, who represented the state, said that the court rejected the bail petition after hearing from both the sides for over three hours and examining evidences produced by the investigation officer.
He said that the court, after hearing both the sides, summoned the investigation officer and he appeared before the court and produced Minni’s mobile phone call records and different video footage.
The court examined them and rejected the bail prayer.
On July 16, police arrested Minni after a daylong interrogation and a Barguna court placed her on a five-day remand in police custody for interrogation on the following day.
On July 19, the Barguna court recorded the statement of Minni in the case of killing her husband Rifat Sharif, a 25-year-old internet service provider. The police have so far arrested 16 people including Minni.
The prime accused in the case, Nayon Bond, was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police on July 2.
Four of the named accused in the case are still in hiding, according to court officials.
A video clip of the murder captured in a surveillance camera went viral on social media. It showed criminals hacking Rifat Sharif brutally in front of Barguna Government College while his wife Minni was trying to save him.
