Mosquito control office chief absent, mosquitos hum in store: ACC
Mosquito Control Office chief was on Tuesday found absent at his office but mosquitos were humming at its store room by an Anti-Corruption Commission team.
The ACC paid the visit to the MCO at Orphanage Road, on receipt of complaint on the ACC hotline-106, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee told reporters.
None in the MCO could say why chief was absent.
MCO drums for keeping mosquito insecticides were empty, he said.
MCO works under the Local Government Division.
Pranab said that the ACC team found the environment inside the MCO store conducive for mosquito breeding.
Later, the team inspected Dhaka South City Corporation’s mosquito control activities at Lalbagh and Dhakeshwari Mondir areas in the capital and found that the DSCC workers were fumigating the areas with the same amount of insecticide that was sprayed before the dengue outbreak occurred, Pranab said.
He said that DSCC officials informed the ACC team that the insecticides were collected from Dhaka North City Corporation.
The ACC team asked the DSCC officials to submit today the register to show how much insecticides were used in last four years to control mosquito menace, said the ACC PRO.
