NILARDI MURDER : Emails sent from Ctg, FBI men meet DB

Investigators made little progress into the murder of blogger Niladri Chatterjee, besides collecting some samples from the crime scene and meeting members of the US Federal Bureau of Investigation who are set to help in the investigations.
Police also confirmed that the emails from Ansar Al-Islam sent to different media houses claiming responsibility for the murder were from inside Bangladesh.
They further claimed they were yet to find proof of their ‘reluctance’ to record a general dairy by Niladri.
The emails were from inside Bangladesh but they could still be unrelated to the actual killers,’ Mahbub Alam, deputy commissioner of detective branch (east) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police told reporters Sunday at DMP media centre.
A cornered official claimed the email was sent from a madrassah in Chittagong.
Meanwhile, FBI has sought to provide technology support in the investigation.
Alam said this after a meeting between three FBI men and top police officials at the DB office.
‘The meeting was already scheduled, to discuss the Avijit Roy murder investigation, and the Niladri murder case was further discussed,’ he said.
‘The FBI team has wanted to share technical expertise with police. DB will seek their help when we need it during investigation,’ Mahbub added.
Talking to reporters, Rapid Action Battalion director general Benazir Ahmed said they were analyzing the digital footprint of the alleged killers.
A concerned intelligence official of the battalion told New Age that the killers used mobile phones inside the apartment and they might have also taken a mobile phone and laptop of the slain blogger, which might lead to clues to identify the assailants.
The police official said it would become clear after investigation whether Nilardi was killed by any group aggrieved by his writings on social media or any banned militant outfit.
A blood soaked T-Shirt, a napkin, a water bottle and bucket were found near the building, left behind by the killers, said detectives.
Meanwhile, a Dhaka court asked police to complete DNA test of a tooth of the deceased, the seized T-shirt and napkin at the DMCH forensic department.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Emdadul Haq passed the order on Sunday after Khilgaon OC (investigation) filed a petition with the court in this regard.
The FBI team of two US nationals and one Bangladeshi went to the office of Detective Branch (DB) of Police at Mintoo Road in Dhaka around 12pm and stayed for an hour.
They discussed the findings in another slain blogger Avijit Roy killing investigation.
Niladri, 28, was hacked to death by four unidentified people inside his apartment at East Goran in the capital, Friday afternoon.
He used to write under the pen name Niloy Neel on the rights of ethnic minority communities and women and was a critic of religious extremism.
His body was cremated early Sunday after it was taken to Pirojour from Dhaka Medical College, said Niladri’s uncle Nirmal Chatterjee.
Niladri, 28, who was also a Ganajagaran Mancha activist, is the fourth blogger to be killed this year by suspected Islamist militants.
