Two more die of dengue

Two more people died of dengue in the capital and Barishal on Thursday.

With these two deaths, at least 122 people died of the aedes mosquito-caused infection, according to unofficial reports, but the government figure puts the death toll at 47.

So far this year, at least 59,592 people were hospitalised, including 41,131 in the past 22 days of August alone and 16,253 in July, according to Health Emergency and Operation Centre Control Room.

In the 24 hours ending at 8:00am on Thursday, at least 1,597 new dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country including 836 in different districts and 761 in the capital, the control room said.

On the day, at least 6,147 dengue patients were under treatment in various hospitals including 3,332 in the capital and 2,815 in the districts.

On Thursday morning, dengue patient Gias Uddin, 40, son of Abdul Awal from Chandpur, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, a hospital official said.

He was admitted to  the hospital with dengue at around 11:00pm on Wednesday and died at about 6:20am on Thursday at the hospital’s ICU.

In Barishal, a man died of dengue at Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Monir Hossain, 38, son of Shahjahan Mia from Mehendiganj upazila of the district.

SBMCH director Bakir Hossain said that Monir was hospitalised after being diagnosed with dengue on August 18. He died at around 5:00am.
