Probe initiated against Jamalpur DC as video goes viral
The Cabinet Division has launched a move to verify a video where Jamalpur deputy commissioner Ahmed Kabir was seen hugging a female colleague privately, drawing criticism in social media after it went viral.
Asked whether any move was taken against the Jamalpur DC after the video showing him in an ‘improper situation’, cabinet secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told New Age that a move was in process against Ahmed Kabir, an administration cadre official belonging to the 18th batch of Bangladesh Civil Service.
‘We are already looking into the matter. A move has already been initiated to verify the authenticity of the video that has gone viral on the social media,’ said cabinet division additional secretary A Gaffar Khan, responsible for district and field administration.
He said that actions would be taken through proper investigation against the DC, who also functions as district magistrate.
‘We will inform the cabinet secretary about the primary findings. He [the DC] will not be spared if found guilty,’ said the additional secretary.
The five-minute video went viral on Thursday night, drawing widespread criticisms against the Jamalpur deputy commissioner, who has been holding the post since May 27, 2017.
While asked about the fact by district journalists, Ahmed Kabir said on Friday morning, he would hold a press conference to give his opinion about the incident.
Later in the afternoon, he told a press briefing in the district circuit house that he was disturbed mentally at the incident and sought a little more time to find out the truth through an investigation.
Despite efforts, the Jamalpur DC could not be contacted for comment on Saturday.
