RIFAT MURDER HC verdict on Ayesha’s bail plea today
The High Court would deliver verdict today on the bail application of Ayesha Siddiqua Minni who was implicated in the case of her husband Rifat Sharif’s murder at Barguna on June 26.
A HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman fixed the date after hearing on a rule it issued on August 20 asking the government and the police why Ayesha would not be granted bail.
The court was packed with lawyers and journalists during hearing lasted for one hour and a half.
Minni’s lawyer ZI Khan Panna prayed for granting bail for 19-year-old college student Aayesha.
If she was granted bail, she could not interrupt the investigation of the case, which was now at the final stage according to the investigation officer, he submitted.
Deputy attorney general Sarowar Hossain Bappi opposed granting bail to Ayesha saying that she talked several times to main accused Sabbir Hossain Nayan alias Nayan Bond, her former husband before after the murder of her husband Rifat Sharif on June 26.
Panna submitted that none asked the police why sub-inspector Asaduzzaman talked to Nayan Bond for 77 times.
Replying to a query, investigation officer Humayun Kabir told the court that the police could not arrest Nayan Bond alive since the police came under attack when they raided his hideout to arrest him.
He said that Nayan Bond was killed in ‘encounter’ during the raid on July 2.
Police arrested Ayesha after a daylong interrogation on July 16. A court placed her on a five-day remand the following day. Three days later, a Barguna court recorded her statement.
Rifat Sharif, 25, an internet service provider, was hacked to death in broad daylight in front of her college in Barguna town on June 26.
In footage of the incident that went viral on social media, Ayesha was seen screaming and trying to save her husband from the attackers.
Rifat’s father filed the murder case with Barguna Sadar Police Station against 12 people on the day of the incident.
