Alleged ‘drug peddler’ killed in M’singh ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug peddler was killed in an alleged gunfight with members of the police’s Detective Branch at Nizam Nagar of Mymensingh Sadar upazila on early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Sajal Mia, 24, son of Arju Mia of Krishtopur in Mymensingh city. Police said he was accused in six cases.

Shah Kamal Akand, officer-in-charge of DB police, said one of their teams raided the area around 1:30am after being tipped-off that drug peddlers were selling drugs in the area.

Miscreants opened fire as soon as the DB team reached the area, triggering a gunfight, the OC said.

Sajal, who was shot during the gunfight, was arrested and taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, Akand said.

Police recovered three knives and 100grams of heroin from the spot, the OC said.
