KL leader among 5 held with arms, Yaba at Kalabagan club

Members of Rapid Action Battalion detained Krishak League leader Shafiqul Alam Feroz and four if his associates along with firearms, ammunition and 1000 pieces of Yaba tablet from Kalabagan Krira Chakra in Dhaka on Friday night.
After conducting the raid, Lieutenant Colonel Ashique Billah, commanding officer of RAB 2, told reporters that the found a revolver, cartridges, Yaba pills, three cartons of playing cards and some scorecards and coins used in gambling during the raid.
RAB cordoned off Kalabagan Krira Chakra at Dhanmondi in Dhaka Friday evening on allegation of running casino there.
The club president Shafiqul Alam Feroz, also a member of the central executive committee of Krishak League, has been confined by the RAB personnel, reports New Age correspondent from the spot.
Earlier, a team of RAB 1 led by its executive magistrate Mohammad Sarwar Alam detained Juba League leader SM Golam Kibria Shamim, much known as GK Shamim, along with huge amount of cash and Fixed Deposit Receipt and seven bodyguards at his office in Niketan of Dhaka.
‘We seized Tk 165 crore Fixed Deposit Receipt and Tk 1.8 crore in cash and foreign currencies during the drive,’ Mohammad Sarwar Alam told reporters at the spot.
‘A foreign-made pistol, seven shotguns and a huge cache of ammunition were also seized from the office of GKB & Company Pvt Limited, owned by Shamim,’ Alam said.
The drives were being conducted as part of the crackdown on illegal casinos and businesses after Awami League president Sheikh Hasina vented anger on some Juba League leaders narrating their illegal acts.
On Wednesday, members of RAB arrested Juba League leader Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan, also president of Fakirerpool Youngmen’s Club, at Gulshan for running an illegal casino in the club.
Separate Dhaka courts on Thursday placed Khalid, organising secretary of Dhaka South city unit of Juba League, on a seven-day remand in two cases filed against him.
