3 extremists arrested from Narayanganj

Police on Monday arrested three alleged extremists including a woman while they conducted overnight anti-extremist drive in a house at Takkar Math in Fatullah of Narayanganj.

‘With the assistance from district police unit, the members of the counter terrorism unit of police had begun the drive since 1:00am on Monday,’ said Manirul Islam, additional police super of the district police.

Chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Monirul Islam said the three suspected extremists detained in connection with extremism during the raid in a house at Takkar Math had links with five recent attacks in Dhaka.

‘One of the arrested, Fariduddin Rumi is a member of Neo JMB. They have links with five recent attacks and attempts to attack in Dhaka,’ he said while addressing a press briefing on the spot here in the afternoon.

The arrested were identified as Fariduddin Rumi, 27, his wife Jannatul Foara Anu, 22, and Jamal Uddin, 25, son of former bank officer Joynal Abedin, reports UNB.

Police in a drive arrested them from a three-storey building, own by Joynal Abedin, at Takkar Math area of the upazila.

Police kept surrounding two houses including a tin-shed adjacent to the building, following an interrogation revealed that there was an explosive manufacturing lab at the tin-shed house, according to the official.
