RAB raids Mohammedan club director in-charge Lokman’s house

The Rapid Action Battalion began a drive at Mohammedan club director in-charge Lokman Hossain Bhuiyan’s house at Monipuripara in Dhaka early Thursday, officials in the elite force said.

On Sunday, Dhaka Metropolitan Police conducted raids at four reputed sporting clubs including Mohammedan in the capital’s Motijheel area and seized various instruments and documents used for gambling over a long period of time.

The clubs, located in close proximity to Motijheel police station, were found empty as the officials and members were all absconding.

After the raid that lasted many hours the police sealed off all four clubs — Arambagh Krira Sangha, Dilkusha Sporting Club, Victoria Sporting Club and Mohammedan Sporting Club.

Police seized numerous casino-style gambling equipment and alcohol.

The DMP’s Motijheel division deputy commissioner Anwar Hossain told the reporters that they conducted the raid based on intelligence that these clubs were running illegal gambling and casino operations.
