Farmer dies of dengue, 360 more hospitalised
A farmer died of dengue at Faridpur Medical College Hospital on Saturday morning while at least 360 new dengue patients were hospitalised in the past 24 hours ending 8:00am Saturday.
Faridpur Medical College Hospital director Kamda Prasad Saha said that 40-year-old Sirajul Islam was admitted to Shibchar Upazila Hospital on Sunday with symptoms of dengue and was shifted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital on Monday.
Sirajul died early Saturday while undergoing treatment at the hospital, he said.
Sirajul, a farmer, was son of Felu Sheikh of village Narandia of Saltha upazila in Faridpur.
Ten people died at the hospital of the mosquito-borne disease at the hospital since the beginning of the year, he added.
The Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research said it has received reports of 231 suspected dengue deaths this year.
Directorate General of Health Services said Saturday that at least 360 new dengue patients were hospitalised across the country in 24 hours till 8:00am Saturday.
Of the new hospitalised patients, 102 were in Dhaka and 258 in other parts of the country.
On Saturday, at least 1,709 dengue patients were under treatment at different hospitals, including 629 in the capital and 1,080 in different hospitals across the country.
Since January, 87,263 people were hospitalised with dengue.
