Suraiya murder verdict deferred to October 10

A Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court here on Sunday deferred until on October 10 the pronouncement of verdict in Willes Little Flower School and College student Suraiya Akhter Risha murder case.

Earlier, October 6 was fixed delivering the verdict in the murder case after concluding the arguments of the both sides.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Court Judge KM Imrul Kayes deferred the date as police failed to produce Obaidul Khan, the lone accused in the case, before the court on Sunday.

The accused was not produced before the court as the policeman assigned to produce him before the court was shifted for Durga Puja duty, said court inspector Moinul Islam.

Risha, 14, daughter of Md Ramzan Ali of Bangshal of old Dhaka and an eighth-grader of Willes Little Flower School and College, was stabbed by Obaidul in front of her educational institution at Kakrail in the capital on 24 August in 2016 as she refused his love proposal.

She succumbed to her wounds at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on August 28 while her mother filed a case with Ramna police station.

Later, police arrested Obaidul Khan, 29, son of late Abdus Samad of Miratongi village of Birganjupazila in Dinajpur from Nilphamari district on August 31 in connection with the murder.

Charged were framed against Obaidul on April 17, 2017. A total of 21 witnesses among 26 testified in the case.
