5 PCJSS (MN Larma) men killed in Rangamati gunfight with army

At least five people were killed and a military soldier injured in a gunfight between military and a group of armed peopled said to be members Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samiti (MN Larma) at Rupkari of Baghaichari in Rangamati early Saturday.PCJSS (MN Larma) denied involvement of any of their activists in the gunfight.
Identities of the victims could not be known immediately.The commanding officer of Baghaihat zone of army Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haider Siddique said newsmen that all of the people killed in the gunfight were in military uniform. He also said seven firearms and 513 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the spot. During the gunfight an army corporal also sustained injuries in the gunfight that took place at Bara Adam of Baghaichari.Military sources said on information they had raided Bara Adam in the early hours and crooned off the armed people. As they opened fire on the soldiers, the military retaliated that triggered an hour-long gunfight. The army also arrested three PCJSS (MN Larma) activists from the spot.Lieutenant Colonel Ali Haider Siddique said the armed men were hiding in the house of one Binayjyoti Chakma and had tried to use his family members as human shield but cautious firing by army could avoid casualty of any innocent citizen. He said other members of the 20-men group could manage to flee and operations were on to arrest them.Baghaichari police officer-in-charge M Zakir Hossain said police went to the spot to recover the bodies.PCJSS (MN Larma) leader Prashanta Chakma claimed their party had no armed members so there was no chance for the gunfight victims to be member of the party.
