CLASHES OVER FB POST Biplob’s relatives picked up

A group of men, identifying themselves as  members of the detective branch of police at Roudrerhat, Dolarhat, Bhola on Monday night picked up two relatives of Biplob Chandra Shuvo whose Facebook account was allegedly hacked and used for spreading derogatory comments on Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (SM) and his daughter Fatima.

On Sunday, the clashes that erupted between the police and local protesters over the Facebook post left four  killed and scores of other injured at Borhanuddin upazila town.

On Monday, the police arrested a journalist in Khulna and a youth in Chattogram under the Digital Security Act for making inciting remarks on the Facebook.

On Tuesday, a host of Islamist groups staged demonstrations in the capital and elsewhere in the country in protest against killing of four people in  Borhanuddin and demanded capital punishment to those who made the derogatory comments on the Facebook.

Heavy police contingents have been deployed  at the Borhanuddin town and the Border Guard Bangladesh troops are patrolling its roads amid uneasy calm, said locals.

No new suspects were arrested Tuesday in the case filed by the police in connection with the Sunday’s clashes, Borhanuddin police station’s  duty officer said Tuesday night.

He said that on Monday Biplob was shown arrested in a case filed under Digital Security Act for making the derogatory comments on his Facebook page and on the same day he was produced before a Bhola court which sent him to jail custody.

The police headquarters in a statement said Sunday that Biplob came to the Borhanuddin police station at about 8:05pm on Friday to file  a general diary to inform that his facebook account had been hacked and when he was in the  police station and  that an unidentified caller demanded money from him on cell phone.

The police arrested the hacker Sharif at Patuakhali and the caller Emon at Borhanuddin on the same night, said the statement of the Police HQ.

On Sunday night Borhanuddin police had said that the FB post was spread from Biplob’s hacked page.

On Tuesday morning, Bhola police superintendent Sarkar Mohammad Kaisar filed a GD with the Bhola police station alleging that his Facebook account had been hacked on Monday night, said Bhola Sadar police station’s officer-in-charge Md Enayet Hossain.

Different Islamist groups have been demanding the SP’s removal for his alleged involvement with the clashes in Bhola.

On Tuesday night, Dolarhat police station officer-in-charge Md Mizanur Rahman Patwari told New Age that Binoy Majumder of Gazaria,  Lalmohon, Bhola filed a GD with his police station alleging that his son Bidhan Majumder and his jewellery shop worker Sagar had been missing.

In the GD, Binoy alleged that Bidhan and Sagar had left their Gazaria home for the jewellery shop at Roudrerhat, Dolarhat on Monday morning and did not return.

The OC said that the police was investigating what had happed to Bidhan and Sagar.

Bidhan is Biplob’s sister’s husband and Sagar is Biplob’s cousin.

Binoy told reporters that  a team of seven or eight people went to the jewelry shop at around 7:00pm on Monday and picked up Bidhan and Sagar and left the spot by a car.

When the strangers were getting into the car, locals asked them about their identity and they said they were DB members, he said, quoting locals.

Bhola district DB officer-in-charge Shahidul Islam told New Age that none of his officers raided Dolarhat and that they did not detain  Bidhan and Sagar.

On Monday, Khulna police arrested Munir Uddin Ahmed, Khulna correspondent of English national daily New Nation and a former general secretary of Khulna Press Club, under the Digital Security Act.

The police said that Munir had been arrested at  Khulna city for inciting people and damaging  the image of police by providing false information about the Bhola incident on his Facebook page.

On Tuesday, investigation officer of the case sub-inspector Saidur Rahman of Khulna police station produced Munir before metropolitan magistrate Md Amirul Islam seeking a seven-day remand, the court rejected the police prayer and sent Munir to jail custody.

In the port city of Chattogram, the police arrested Rabiul Alam, 28, son of Ahmed Hossain of Purba Puichhari, Bashkhali, while raiding a hotel at Laldighi on Monday night in a case under Digital Security Act allegedly for  sharing a provocative status on his Facebook page against Chattogram Metropolitan Police commissioner Mahbubur Rahman.

Mohammad Mohsin, officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station, said that Rabiul was arrested for sharing the status with a picture attached to it saying, ‘The man who issued the order to fire on ‘Touhidi Janata’ during the clashes in Bhola.’

In Dhaka, Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh organized a protest rally in front of the Baitul Mokarrom National Mosque in protest against killing of four people in Bhola, demanding capital punishment for Biplob alleging that he shared derogatory comments on the prophet and his daughter, compensation for the deceased, free treatment for all the injured and unconditional release of those arrested in connection with the clashes.

Traffic movement on the road between the Dainik Bangla and Purana Paltan crossings  remained suspended for during the hour long demonstration since 1:30pm.

The programme was held as a part of Hefazat’s countrywide demonstrations.

Hefazat’s Chattogram rally was held in front of Jamiatul Falah National Mosque after the Zuhr prayers.

Hefazat also held similar demonstrations in Rajshahi city’s Zeropoint.

In Khulna, Jatiya Ulama Mashayekh Aimma Parishad formed a human chain protesting against killing of four people in Bhola and demanding exemplary punishment for those who killed them.
