People to oust ‘monstrous govt’: BNP

Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Friday termed the government as a monstrous one and said the people of the country were now ready to launch movement to oust it.

The party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said this while addressing a prayer session at the party’s central office at Naya Paltan in Dhaka in the afternoon seeking divine blessings for early recovery of ailing vice-chairman of the party Sadeque Hossain Khoka, also a former Dhaka mayor.

Prayer sessions were also held at different mosques in the capital after Jumma prayers for early recovery of Khoka, a freedom fighter.

Fakhrul said the government lodged cases against all the members of Khoka’s family, as did against leaders and activists of BNP across the country.

‘People are eagerly waiting for establishing their government by ousting this monstrous government through tough movement,’ he said.

Fakhrul urged all to pray for early recovery of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and Khoka.

‘None of us is now good. We all are victims of oppression and cases. The government lodged cases against all the family members of Khoka. He is critically ill now,’ he said.

‘I talked to him on October 29 and he could not speak properly. He asked me to request all to pray for him,’ said Fakhrul.

Presided over by Dhaka south city BNP president Habib-un Nabi Khan Sohel and conducted by the unit’s general secretary Kazi Abul Bashar,

the gathering at the prayer session was also addressed by BNP standing committee members Mirza

Abbas and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, among others.

The health condition of Khoka, who has long been receiving treatment in the United States for cancer, has turned critical a few days back.

He was undergoing treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.

Khoka, also a former minister, was arrested days before the January-5 national election in 2014.

Released on bail from jail, he was admitted to BIRDEM Hospital in the capital, but doctors could not exactly detect his health problem.

Later, he went to the US on May 14, 2014 and has been receiving treatment there since then.
